Flight of the Dragonflies by Colourbrand Flight of the Dragonflies by Colourbrand
I was inspired by this picture [link] from :icongrahamtg: to do the following illustration. If you get the chance, check out his gallery – his work is stirring!

A pair of MM-1 Dragonfly Class Light Aerospace Fighters speed through the Ionosphere of Canopus IV, capital of the Magestry of Canopus.

The Dragonfly is an old, feeble, flawed ship, equipped with poor technology(by Battletech standards); it’s claimed to be armed with two large and three medium lasers, even though the only drawing that exists shows one large, two medium, and four small beam weapons.

Despite its “flaws” I like the look of the Dragonfly; its large forewing is utterly unusual and attractive to me; so I did this pic. Originally the lasers were not to be on, but it made the pic look lifeless so I did glows on them.

I tried to do the Canopus flag on the lead ship but the original colours looked wrong, so I made a slight spin on it.

I am very pleased how this came out, especially the backdrop and thanks to a tutorial, the continents below look more feesable.

Like to hear your thoughts!

Enjoy!

I was wondering why this one wasn't familiar enough! Still, I think you did it better justice than the original! The colors really do bring it to life!

I liked the design - it was a catcher; there are some aeros that are obviously superior but look shit!

Hence this. Like a Lancia Statos - unreliable but beautiful.

Thank you sir for your great support - always :D

Sorry I took so long to comment. So, the background looks great: the atmosphere is the most precise area-good job on that.
The ship is meant to be poor quality? Man that's just wrong. It looks really high tech here. Or maybe we're not used to this kind of technology yet. ^^

You're really skillfull but if you add lasers... I like this pic for calm view of soft flight space machines. Why lasers? If you want to be more commercial - people like effects. :/

Hmm, thanks for the tip - that is a gem! Cheers!

I just wanted something tranquil - any weapons fire would break the serenity.

But thank you again for the advice :D

And cheers for coming by and commenting :)

This time it's my turn to apologize for the long response- I've been tangled up in some things.

For the first thing, I must say you are putting that tutorial of yours to a terrific use! I can tell
you've learned a lot from it; the expansion of one's ability is incredible. :D

Those Dragonflies are an interesting class of ship, I gotta say. But, somehow, they're attractive,
like you say! I guess it's that broad wing of its at the front.

But the real thing that gets me here is the colour scheme. You should be proud of yourself, your
colours have come a darned long way! The continents look terrific under the clouds, and the
vast stratosphere above is marvellous! This isn't just a flattery- this is real talent here! :)

Thank you very much for these words - it was an effort to do, and it has come to pass well. I am too proud of the colours that have come to pass here - it just flows well and it makes it all work.

Thank you very much for your grand and fabulous support! Always a joy :D

Sometime. I honestly don't know when that'll be- I've been hurlding
a slight art block recently, but I'll whip something up soon!

My support is being put to a much-deserving place. :) You've been
doing so much- it's inspiring!

A merry joy it is! It is always a pleasure! :D

Thank you kindly!

I am still learning too. I won't be considering any part of my painting skills yet perfect, perhaps not ever. Tons more to polish up, and then some. It's a hard thing to accept personally, and took me a long time to come to terms with it, but very worthwhile.

Will continue to watch your space =)Thanks for the willingness to share!

Best piece so far, not much to comment on, though the positions could be more dynamic.

Mind lending a link to the tutorial you used for the continents?

Ever since I first saw this design I was of the opinion that I WANT THEM!
If IWM ever does minis of them I intend on buying a full wing of them :)

And besides. Stats were meant to be tinkered with.

When I saw them I said to myself "what a great design!"

Maybe, just needs someone to get their finger out....and yes, tinker the stats - I think double heatsinks and XL engine will be a great starter for ten!

Thank you sir for taking time out to comment and visit :D
