Mechbusted by Colourbrand Mechbusted by Colourbrand
A company of mercenary mechs, commanded by their leader in her CHP-2N Champion Heavy, commit a raid on a world on the border of Combine space.

Intelligence shows that the planet has no mechs or aerospace fighters; just local military forces which have conventional aircraft to defend the world with; Mechbusters.

Cock sure and convinced, and knowing of the limitations of said planes, especially in the battle of Sevren in 3024, they attack.

However, they are met with two full squadrons of these jets and in the resulting fight the mech force is torn asunder by free-falling ordnance, and high altitude AC/20 airstrikes.

What is left of her light/medium mech force flee but the Kuritans are not letting them escape – defeat and death seem certain to her and her damaged mech and friends.

I did this for two people who have been very supportive –Duzloo :iconduzloo:, and Robbe25 :iconrobbe25:.

Robbe designed the Madra (one with four SRM four’s) that are being shot up. He has been a supportive soul so here is my way of saying cheers! To get more facts - [link]

Duzloo loves the Champion mech a lot and has been a sweet supportive person over my art – so this is my way of saying thank you HUGS!! :)

The snow scene came into my mind because I wanted to depict somewhere cold for once – something I have seldom done. I am very proud how the mechbusters came out.

Enjoy!

Any but the wolves.

Just a random collection of fools in walkers who think they are invincible - if only ;)

Cheers sir :D

You mentioned light and medium mechs. Assuming that these types made up the majority of the force this could be a botched Eridani Lighthorse op, but its hard to picture a top teir merc outfit screwing up this bad. Still it has been known to happen.

Nice thought sir - but its just a typical bunch of fools who think Mechs are brilliant against non-mechs, no matter the tonnage - the fools ;)

Cheers sir for looking :D

The dumb shmucks really should have brought a few Rifleman, Galahad or Jagermechs with em.

It does depend on how well the mercs are funded. If they have the c-bills then the mech manufactuars will sell, or they can probably get em war surplus. The toughest one to get would be the Galahad as its a clan mech.

Well, I can't show it off much better without a camera, but here's the Champion done up in this pic's style! The teeth were a little tough, but all in all it turned out nicely! Thanks for the inspiration! (Still working on the Madra.)

by colorfiltered i meant the same as under the blockade pic.

wait up, i searched my favs for some examples
i mean no matter how good and detailed something looks, when its combined with something else in the same (virtual) space, its has to match the same light conditions + light is filtered itself by the air and dust and other particles, so its almost never as clean (/cold) as under a neon-lamp (and even there its changing to the sides of the mainlight).
if this is not integrated into a painting it sometimes appears as if clean objects were pasted into the painting from white-sheet-images.
so one can decide wether to paint everything allready in one consistent (?) light-mood - which needs much skill; or if one paints clean stuph and colorfilters it afterwards - with the outcome to decrease (beloved) details on the objects and some trials, and maybe even adjusting objects individually. (this bytheway is the way i do it, since my skills are not as good yet)

so look at the for example:
[link]
you can see a not very much detailed painting but to me it looks quite real. thats only because the light strikes as right. everything has some orange (filter) over it.
so now you might say, but my image(s) are not set in sunset, so get off my back
then look at this next one:
[link]
its put into a very clear-sky-summer lightmood, so everything would appear "as it actually is". but no; not the case.
look at the ship. i guess it was originally painted white or brighter grey in the docks were it came from, but here it is rose-colored. and even the snow-camo (?) colored mechs dont look like your snow-camo colored jacket in the neon-light of ones army-shop round the corner. everything has some slight rose and light blu filter over it. and so it looks very much fitting.

of course both artists dont need to filter their work afterwards, but i think the knowledge of light-painting comes with time, so i personally dont sweat it most of times that im not there yet....
:)

i hope you get my point......

and i hope that was not too much preachery or somethin...

cheers and all the best, as usual

Apologies for the lateness of my reply but not the brightest tool in the box here :)

SO in a nutshell the best way is to have the picture exibit a constant colour gradiant through the work right?

Hey I appreciate the critisims and support; I would never EVER be abusive to someone who can spot flaws in my art, point them out, and offer suggestions.

Only a loser or someone up their arse would.

And yer not preachy!!! Its welcoming - am still learning, so your support is most welcome :)

"SO in a nutshell the best way is to have the picture exibit a constant colour gradiant through the work right?"

mmh
dunno maybe
i think (if i remember rightly) pro artists use colorpalettes with which they determine Beforehand what are the colors they use in the pick.
i still dont use this tec hnique, but think its quite effective.

mmh still learning too here :)

and your kindness is very very nice and warm to read everytime

This scene is beautiful. It really gives the feeling of being in the heart of a much larger battle.

Yeah, that I get and I am glad that it came over that way - the mechs are not my design but I wanted mechs to look like walkers but not the typical stupid giant man styles. I wanted them to feel like piloted machines.

Sides the lead mech is a fave of the lass I did this for in a way of saying thank you for her support.

I am glad you like this and thank you very much for popping by to comment :)

Very nicely done, especially since you brought up the subject of my favorite design of conventional aircraft! The Mechbusters came out beautifully, especially with all of the positions you placed them in!

The Mechs came out nicely too, especially the Champion! The Madras remind me of Locusts, and your portrayal of them is quite dynamic!

The story serves well too, giving the picture life and meaning. I won't lie, I am quite satisfied seeing a Champion get caught in a losing battle, as I am not a fan of the design.

I'll be back for more!

Why thank you sir - the Mechbuster was a ship I liked but the tech readout put me off. However a good friend revived my feeling for her and the rest is history.

Yeah I felt that too as I drew her; nice seeing her circling all those mechs its about to scrap.

One tries sir and thank you for your kind words - I am not that good with mechs but I am getting 'better'.

And yes I am not all that keen too but at least it looks a more feesable mech than most! I am glad the story helped!

Always a pleasure sir - always :D

As the novels pointed out for me, the range on an aircraft's weapons can often be ignored because of how fast they can close with an enemy, making the big 20 a nasty piece of work against mechs!

Your mechs are excellent! I actually want to try my hand at the paint job you did on the Champion, and possibly mod a Locust like the Madra.

Indeed the story did!

Actually a confession.

They are just grey - dark grey badly shot up - camo and colours are not exactly my forté. The shark mouths - pure cliché :)

Indeed, a factor the makers of BT NEVER pencil in; think about it, an AC/20 round fired from 30,000 Ft - imagine the impact that would yield!!!

Hey go nuts and when you do, please let me know, a friend of mine will be a chuffed bunny! :D

Meh! They're still pretty awesome looking! I don't care if you say they're just shot up, they still look awesome!

I don't think it works that way, since air resistance would ruin both it's aim and slow the shots down. There's actually a bunch of projectile physics in some of the BattleTechnology Magazines that explains it, i just can't remember what it was right now.

I'm pretty excited to do it too! I'll share it with all you guys when it's done! ^^
