Skysplashed: The Death of Sky 1

Description

This is a picture depicting the Sky Interceptors from UFO, trying to take down an alien ship – and losing.

For many years the Sky Interceptors, especially Sky 1, the first and famous of the fleet have engaged and destroyed many alien intruders with remarkable ease.

However this ship is way different from the silver, glittery, spinning capsule they are use to. Nethertheless, they engage this alien intruder with the usual gusto. This saucer is very manoeuvrable, flies at right angles and very resilient to their weapons.

Straker, Freeman, Lake, and Foster, as well as SHADO Control’s staff and the Sky Diver crews watch in horror as the famed flagship of the Sky fleet is first destroyed; then despite their efforts and desire for vengeance, Sky 2 and Sky 4 are dispatched with similar ease, delivering a far devastating blow to SHADO since the loss of Skydiver 3.

I based the alien ship from Dark Skies; a rather poor rival to the X-Files. The first five minutes where Gary Powers is chasing a UFO is stunning, and I loved the way that alien ship moved, hence the choice.

This is what made me wince with UFO; maybe the aliens they always fought were not dedicated fighters, but if one has more advanced technology, well the results speak for themselves.

I wonder what would happen if they encountered something far better than them; hence why I did this pic. I am rather proud how the saucer came out – minimal detail, very basic in design, but compared to the complex shapes of the Sky Interceptors, this enhances the alien nature of the ship.

Enjoy!

Intriguing idea! Gerry Anderson always did portray a Terra-Uber-Alles attitude, and never did adress the idea of a technologically more advanced race taking the fight to the Humans.  Now for another idea...The aliens portrayed here are not the same as the usual suspects, but are actually their enemies, and they need our world as a base of operations.  First, though, they decide to get rid of those nuisancy humans and the old fashioned crates they fly...
