Space Exploration Vessel Concept by Colourbrand Space Exploration Vessel Concept by Colourbrand
This was one of my earliest creations - a starship designed to explore the solar system.

The vessel is like the space station from the hit film 2001:A Space Odyssey. The large wheel like section rotates creating gravity and a field to repel cosmic radiation.

Just an experiment in glares and textures.

Enjoy!

Really? WOW! Just mucked about with this one.

I try to put a mood into my work - no point looking at something without some sort of feeling.

Thank you very much sir for taking time to look at some of my works - most appreciated :D

Is this the piece that you were directing me to? Well... even if it isn't, I'm ALWAYS up for a good space exploration illustration! :D

May I ask how you do the windows? They contribute a lot to this.

Sure - RGB Blue colour with brush setting on Colour Dodge.

When you do the windows do it with a big brush - say 10 px.

Then go over it with a brush set to half size - gives the impression that there is a light on in a room :)

Hope that helps :D

Sorry for commenting so late on this, I've been quite busy ^^; ...
Nice work, I like it, even if it's just an experiment as you say. 2001 was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw this so yay, I've been right.
I like the the background the most with the sun peeking around that planet.

This is great!! I really like the lights. They make the mothership shine out, and the reflection of the light on the disk-like metal is really good.

Only the front of the ship with the red light needs to be a little redone. Otherwise, Great job.

Terrific work, I caught the 2001: A Space Odyssey reference immediately!
One of my favourite movies for sure. It's just so magically crafted, it's hard to believe that
such a thing could ever have been created.

The space station looks just incredible. I adore the lights and glare! Perspective here is riveting.
I love how you placed the horizon and the moon.

Truly a gem created here, sir! :D

That is great praise sir, and inspired by a great film like that, absolutely! I am damn pleased you love this one.

The glare was luck, and I have a thing for lights :D

Thank you very much for popping by sir, and commenting with such great words. Means a lot :D

Awesome design! It not only has a strong 2001 design influence, but also an Avatar sense of scale, and the smooth, clean textured look of the Star Trek films.
