Spirals of Tommorrow: Human Cruiser by Colourbrand Spirals of Tommorrow: Human Cruiser by Colourbrand
My friend :iconshoguneagle: has developed a unique universe called, Spirals of Tomorrow.

It is still sketchy, but he is hoping to shape it into something different, not the usual format. or clichés.

This is based on one of the means of FTL flight, known as a Space Warp Drive; more details - please see his page.

From what I gathered, I knew it would be speed related so I did the usual blurs of colours for velocity.

The design was inspired by sci-fi artist legend, Chris Foss.

Comments and feedback most welcome!

Enjoy!

I can see some Foss here... but maybe some Burns and Berkey, as well?

Unless I am told otherwise about the tech of Spirals, I am saying that is part of the Space warp system they use for FTL travel.

A fuelscoop mind - is not a bad idea :D

Cheers for popping by!

Love the details and lighting all around. That's one shiny ship! Great mix of curves and angulars. 👍 And the BG - blue behind and red in front - like she's going into the unknown.

I love this, this is making me want to binge gaming on 'Destiny' & 'No Man Sky' and see what sci fi space is like. Not sure what it is right now, these last couple of days I have been watching a lot of sci fi movies, and when I do. I flick through your gallery to see what sci fi illustrations you do, from space battles, space scenery, planet scenery and now to your recent instalment on writing. Look forward into reading your pdf document on 'Star Trek' soon.

Keep up the good work and surround yourself with sci fi related inspiration.

Dead certain you have seen 'Blade Runner' by Ridley Scott, have you seen the documentaries on building the set, the movie, art work etc - so much content and awesome behind the scenes footage on the creators of that amazing piece of work.

Stay true to yourself and keep those illustrations going.

What great words - I am truly humbled sir - I really am - just a guy who loves doing this stuff - because mainly I do :D

I will keep doing it sir - just tired too much these days :(

I have seen the documentary sir - and loved it; and lets be honest, Syd Mead did the donkey work - and he is a God as far as I am concerned :D

Please when you wish - just remember - its a bit dodgy on the lingo :)

"Stay true to yourself and keep those illustrations going. "

Always am always shall and always will :salute: Take care :D

It's a lovely piece, I can just see it gracing the cover of a late 1970s or early 1980 sci-fi novel.

That circle at the front, is that a camera, weapon, or a window?

I was going to say a navi-deflector - but that is so Star Trek - and sides, if its that critical EVERY ship would have then, and such a device I think would interfere with the travel.

This was just to make it look cool; now thinking about it, its part of the space warp drive; if I am getting the jist of this new universe, Terrans have good technology, but not great technology.

Hope it helps :)

When in doubt, go for a wave motion gun.
tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php…

Wave motion guns are never lame. If you don't want it to be a weapon, make it a sensor suite, it never hurts to know were your going.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh yes - that's the Japanese!

First experienced such a weapon in "Super Space Machine X-Bomber" or Star Fleet in the West.

I think them weapons are superb - make Phasers and Photon Torpedoes look rubbish

Can be - I just wanted to make a ship that looked like it can travel fast and take a lot of stress.

It's an adaptable platform :)

Thank you for popping by :: most appreciated :D

Foss is my all time hero when it comes to space art. That's the impression I get from a lot of your works, especially your original stuff. Just one of many reasons why i'm a fan, keep up the excellent work.

Love how the lighting compliments the form, something I'm struggling with is getting those smooth tranistions. Reminds me of work by Jim Burns with the forms but design is very Foss adding together to make an awesome ship!

:wow: Foss and Burns? You know your gems sir - thank you!

Tip - if you use Adobe Photoshop, use the Color setting on  the brush; as long as it opposes the colour of whatever you are colouring over, it comes up a nice hint of alternate tone.

Do it at say 20/20?

Play with it sir and let me know how you get on :)
