Stingray vs Corsair by Colourbrand Stingray vs Corsair by Colourbrand
This is a picture of Battletech Aerospace fighters at each other's throats. The top one is an F-90 Stingray and the one its shooting at is a CSR-V12 Corsair.

The Stingray is in House Steiner colours and the Corsair was suppose to be in Davion colours but I learnt that they are yellow not red. However the red colouring is so striking so I kept it. The yellow was not good enough.

So one can say its a squads' colour.

They may not look exactly like them but are modified to be feesable. Most of Battletech's aerospace fighters are poor designs but some are utter jems like these.

Enjoy!

These designs are indeed very nice. I would love to see more feasability redesigns for other aerofighters. Although now BT is having nice artwork, at the begining it was ugly as hell. And crap for the most part.

I think its down to what the owners wanted; my experience as a commissioned artist has taught me that sometimes its what they want despite one's better judgement.

Things like the Sparrowhawk, the Corsair, and the Leopard were pinched and reworked from Crusher Joe - showing its the owners with no vision.

Having said that, I so agree that some reworking is needed to make them feel more; but again that's down to the powers that be :)

Cheers my friend for popping by and commentating :D

I see. Albeit I would say that one of the main issues with the original BT was that they wanted a lot of stuff and fast. The original game was cancelled because of conflicts with the Star Wars IP (it was called BattleDroids), and had to be seriously reworked, while also brought to the market quickly so not to lose too much money. Furthermore, there wasn't internet back then to find good artists quickly. So, they had a lot going against them.

With that said, there was also the blatant tip-off of other's designs. That shows that when push came to shove, they lacked artistic vision and even integrity.

Always my pleasure, mate! ;)

I like that you've added the canard stabilisers to the Corsair... looking at the original drawing of the fighter, I can see that the long, long nose seems wrong without them.:)

Hey stranger! Long time no hear :D

Well to be honest, the Corsair was a rip off of a Crusher Joe fighter. In addition, lets be honest about Battletech - accuracy and intelligence are not their strong points....

Hey, you're not rid of me that easily!:D

"accuracy and intelligence are not their strong points"... I know just what you mean. I've lost track of the number of designs - BattleMech, vehicles, you name it - that have glaring discrepancies in ammunition, placement of weapons, and other f***-ups of truly breathtaking level.:rage:

One of my favourites has to be the equipment layout for the Clans' 'Jenner II' machine, which states that it has eight jump jets. Four in each leg. Which... on the boardgame's 'Mech record sheets... means that the Jenner II has to have its feet and lower legs chopped off to fit the jump jets.:wtf: That's just one of many, many examples I can cite, but I'm sure you don't want me to start frothing at the mouth...

Mate I want you around for decades!

Well there hangs a tail - eight jump jets, four per leg. Sounds like a right turkey - F'kers...

Great work! Love how you did the color and weapons fire. Was the fighter at the bottom inspired by the Colonial Viper?

Haha, no , the actueal fighter is a long nosed bugger, but its colours were, and I can see the resemblence - just one of them things.

Glad you love the weapons fire, I thought it was rather impressive too!

Thank you very much for your wonderful comment and taking time out to visit :D

I must say, I've never seen Battletech fighters in anything but a few ancient video games and comics. These are magnificent, both in design and display. Well done indeed!

Yeah, some of the aerospace fighters look like junk, but this... this is awesome!
I also highly agree with your leaving the Corsair red. Would look a lot less impressive in yellow.

Tell the truth it reminds me of the Battlestar Galactica "Viper" but, eh, the Marauder reminds me of the Glaug Battle Pod as well. *cough cough*

Thank you for your reply Scrapfish, and resonating with what I think, and as for the comment that the Marauder reminds you of the Glaug Battle pod is because the idiots pinced the design then got sued and had to drop the design.

As for the the Viper reference - same thought too!!

Cheers for visiting!

Thanks! But, yeah, pinching the Glaug (among other things) was kinda a dumb move way back when they did it. Of course, that doesn't stop fans from being mad at Harmony Gold instead.
Such is life.

Hey that is the beauty of art - its hand done and has those faults that shows there was a person behind the art.
