This is a fleet of ships from the Sci-fi show Babylon Five.
The sole surviving Victory Class Destroyer, the Excalibur, has received disturbing information that a large task force of Drahk has been sighted near a world not far from the Minbar system. The Excalibur has been responsible for numerous defeats of the Drahk, including assisting in the destruction of a Shadow Planet Killer (where its sister ship, the Victory was destroyed) and finding the cure for the so-called Drahk plague.
All that they know is that the Drahk have massed in significant force. To assist the flagship of the Interstellar Alliance, a combined force of Alna’shok and Minbari vessels have joined them; these include a pair of the mighty Sharlin Class War-Cruisers, four WhiteStar Class Monitiors, a pair of Enfali Class Cutters, and a Valen Class Transport.
On arrival however, the fleet discover nothing. It is when they arrive that the Drahk appear and in the classic quote from Admiral Akhbar “it’s a trap” spring it. Along with their vast fleet of ships, the Drahk have brought along their version of the Victory Class, a gigantic five limbed monstrosity that on arrival opens fire with five powerful beams that inflict immediate damage to the Excalibur – including crippling its front neutron blasters.
Despite being few and the flagship being damaged, the fleet prepare to engage the Drahk.
I did this for a friend as well as doing something different, with the hopeful chance that this will improve my skills in doing space combat scenes.
I also did this because I wanted to make the Drahk feel like a threat; after all they were allies to the Shadows so they would/should have learned a thing or two from their masters – the same way that the ISA did from the Vorlons.
This is beautiful. As always, your explosions look great and pretty realistic. It's really nice to see that realistic near absolute shadows in space scenes can yield such effective results. What's happening to the front of the Excalibur.
Wow, love that explosion effects! I can't help but stare at the rendering of the front part of the stricken ship - it makes me wonder at the dangerous but beautiful strangeness of the alien vessel and its technology. Those very small chunks of ship fragments really does justice to the immense size of the vessel and to the whole scene. I feel a deep pain after reading your description of the exploits of the Excalibur, and seeing it suffering like this. The Excalibur is surely a write-off after this venture, but I hope not!
Love your space battle renderings! They all have a 'weight' and a certain high degree of realism in them that I can feel but cannot explain. Keep up the amazing work!
I tried to model the effects like they have on B5 - very glary, almost like fireworks!
The green lightning I wanted to do to give a feel that this ship is in serious trouble.
The chunks of matter were added in, in the B5 universe (primarily due to the computer technology) there were little in debris. That as you said is to give drama to the piece.
Maybe, who knows - the Excalibur is a serious ship.
Well sir I am working on a few space battle pics; just needs refinement - and I am honoured by your stirring comments Thank you sir so much for your support and time Means a lot.
Hm, I'd like to get a closer look at the "five limbed monstrosity" there. Looks promising. It's been a while since I've last seen an episode of Babylon 5 but I remember that I quite liked the show. I really wouldn't mind if you did some more B5 stuff in the future.
The shading...hmm...have to work on that but I did go by the actual CGI model and that has not as much detail in itself.
The explosions I tried to recreate the B5 effects but meh I guess - sides, the Excalibur is suppose to have a crystaline memory armour that can deflect upto 80% of the energy from any beam weapon, hence partial explosive energy.
Aside that, I think it works well
Thank you for taking time out to comment sir - most appreicated

Long time no hear
Well one tries sir, and I am glad you are loving this - all the shading I got from the actual model pic.
The front is where the neutron guns are hit and there is a surge/backblow of energy.

Watch this space - more to come!!

As for this monstrosity...we'll see.
HUGS!
Always a pleasure!
So, all in all, excellent.
