The might of the Sturmfeur by Colourbrand The might of the Sturmfeur by Colourbrand
Apologies for my lateness on the art front - all I will say is that other things have gotten in the way, and I was lacking energy to do any pictures.

All that now is null and moot - for the moment. So a new pic for you lovely people :)

In the Battletech world there are few vehicles I love, and the Sturmfeur is one of them. This missile only armed tank was a revelation when I first encountered this world many years ago.

However typical of Battletech, they did not depict this machine well, especially its firing capabilities; so when I got the chance I decided to have a go at doing this. The Sturmfeur is armed with a twenty-tube self-named long range missile system that is mounted in its back in an angled vertical firing system. Thinking about it and making a modest pic I saw the power of this machine so I worked on it.

I was going to have it on its own but I added a MainGauche (another favourite) Support tank.

The original Sturmfeur had two LRMs, one in the turret, along with two machine guns. This I felt was absurd only a pair of machine guns for defence, despite its whopping armour load.

In addition, mounting LRMS that way it sounded daft so I amended it as a variant; one with paired aft LRM 15 systems, a single gun at the front, and one in the turret with a triple SRM 2 battery for proper defensive punch.

I also wanted to perfect my abilities to do armoured vehicles. The dark strange sky was an afterthought and it emphasises the plumes of the missiles to terrifying lengths.

I added details on her to make her look like a plausible modern tank with lights, and mirrors.

Love to hear your thoughts!!

I remember this universe.  It had some good ideas. And mostly bad hardware choices. The Japanese version of the Battletech hardware was vastly better conceived and executed. Rumor has it that Battletech is in the works to be rebooted. Anyway, well done!Clap

"Battletech is in the works to be rebooted"

Really?!  Hope so!

First off - no CLAN SHIT!!!

Second, better designed stuff.

Third, no Heatsink rubbish

Finally - an even playing field!

I felt that BT was very uneven but had a lot of potential - here's to hope and thanks young man!

Thanks. As for a even playing field... Given that gameverses' level of tech, tanks, anti tank weapons, and powered armor (say the anime series Megazone 23 or Genesis Climber Mospeda) would be a battlemech's biggest ground based threat. LAM's, traditional strikefighters, orbiting starships, and anti tank mines will be a mech's greatest threat. Remember, most of those designs rely on two legs to get around. It would be interesting mashup, to see a fully kitted out Marine Expeditionary Force from the Aliens universe (with starship support) vs. a clan battalion of similar size and force.

I was thinking more along plot and characters, scenes and societies - but hey the reboot could be worse!

Then again may not come to pass - and your ideas will have puritans saying its "too close to GUNDAM!"

Me, I have no qualms about reboots providing that they make sense; and I think your ideas make more sense,...

Uh huh... Well, both Gundam and Macross were the first "robot franchises" that got it right (so to speak). Everything in it's ilk that came after, was influenced in some way by those two. So, high praise indeed. In all, it's going to come down to the creators. Are they passionate enough to do the basic ideas & concepts justice. Or, are they doing it for the money, fame and groupies.:) (Smile)

I so agree - GUNDAM and Macross are the benchmarks - but let us not forget Code Geass, Dancougar, and Trooper Armoured VOTOMs!

They are the masters - the US things are the poor cousins...I hope they do it with passion and such, but too many are willing to sell their souls for cash....

The background with the death stars look great-that's really well done.
The tanks are really well colored too. And the lights so real. Great job on those.

It's not as realistic as your other drawings, but it's still really good.

Another beautiful job on an awesome tank! The shading lines give this bad boy a life and energy that really makes it feel impressive and realistic. The missile tubes in the backdrop of the tank's chassis look great with the tubes lit up like that, and the picture as a whole screams motion.

Sure the dropships in the background seem flat, but they'r almost an afterthought, a bit of filler compared to the forefront tanks!

Speaking of armor, I've been building a Davion Heavy Guards unit, which I am placing quite a bit of devotion into getting right. My current focus is actually on my artillery set, and at the moment I am thinking a Morningstar Command Vehicle, guiding a pair of Marksman Artilleries, with a Patton or Rommel as bodyguard. I do need ideas for the recon section, so that my Arties can get good, guided fire.

Well that is what I was aiming for - what would the Sturmfeur look like if she was actually built?

Killing thing is that this feels like its on the move but I have not put anything in it too make that so. I am proud of this.

As for the dropships in the background that is the plan - enough to realise they are there but not to dominate the picture.

As for your request - go with a few Sturmfeurs - as you can see, canne go wrong eh? ;)

Always a pleasure sir - always! And thanks for your support :D

Very cool piece. Low and wide, very aggressive stance for a tank.

...oh, wait those are two things, not one... Well, it's too late to take back what is already in print... So which should I say is the "one thing"? Hmm... I think the supportive words, yes! That's it! :XD:

Been too long since you added some new art. What's been keeping you busy sir? Have you been doing some other form of art that you're not telling anyone about? =P

Ah who cares as you're back and with a cracking piece of work too.

Have to say you pick a great subject, the SturmFeur is one of those truly inspired designs from the FASA era and you've made it look great. The extra touches are nice especially the lights and the tow points, and the turret hand holds. The mirrors I'm afraid to say I'm not a fan of. I can see the logic behind them but they do see a little out of place.

The colour palette that you've used only helps improve the over all look of the image, the tan colour of both the SturmFeur and the MainGauche tanks seems to blend nicely with the sand and gives the whole image a great feel. Kudos to you sir. I like this, I like it a lot.

Hehhehehehehh ;) all I am saying :D

What can I say but say I am a massive fan of the Sturmfeur - I love her! Only the Manticore comes close. I added all the other details to make her look like a workable tank - and yes those mirrors are "WHAAAAAAT?!?!?!?!" but I based them on actual mirrors on actual armoured vehicles, and judging where the crew seen from the Sturmfeur and the Main Gauche, it sort of works.

I will admit the colour is perfect here - what made it work was the dark sky and missile plumes! It just fell into place!

I am utterly proud you like this sir; that has made it all worth while :D

Thank you always :D

Nice to have you back, with yet another adrenaline-filled and impactful piece of artwork!

Years ago when I first saw this tank in a very old 486-system Battletech computer game book in the form of a b/w outline drawing, I thought this was a very interesting vehicle, and how I wish I could see it 'fleshed' and turned around. But unfortunately I forgot the name of the tank and never got around to looking for it. Now I finally see it!

Love your call and angles on battlefield-related scenes. In fact, on most of your artwork, too. They really make one feel like they're there in the action. Just shows how much you're 'into' the ideas that you paint, and I really value that. Love also the dark sky here - it does justice to how a battle can really 'mess up' a terrain. In some ways it reminds me of Egypt

Good work!

To be honest - I felt it reminded me of Egypt too! Maybe its the dropships in the background akin to glittering monuments, or just desert for desert.

The dark sky was an accident but it highlighted the missiles so well I went "yep!" and also there are them days where the sky is dark but still sunny!

I have always loved this tank and that is what infuriates me with Battletech; they have many wonderful vehicles, aircraft and starships, and yet they concentrate on the giant robots!

No one else was going to do this hence why I did it; finding a setting was hard but it came to pass - HUZZAH!!! Initially I wanted her to be a trio but it would have been cluttersome. I then almost did her alone but then I felt I wanted to see if I can still do this - and hence the Main Gauche support tank.

I try to sir - I try to make the art more - something. I don't always succeed but I try. When I do I am a chuffed bunny :D

And hey man - need more stuff from you maestro - and pleasure to be back - more to come :D

Always a pleasure :D
