Wisp Flypast by Colourbrand Wisp Flypast by Colourbrand
“Captain's Log: Supplemental.

Captain Mason recording.

We have been put back on recon, after three solid months of duty around the sector that Starbase 102 resides. So far the Klingons are keeping a lot profile with reports they are hitting other sectors far from us. Many surmise that they are prodding our defences and will be back.

In the two weeks we had off, my ship the USS Wisp got refitted with two hangers for shuttlecraft; improvements in computer technology, warpcores, and other elements have reduced our crew to half but also has given us the ability to carry shuttles. So if the worse happens at least we can escape.

We are now entering a sector that has been reported for being too quiet. The system has not been properly explored and as we have entered it, we have discovered an M-Class planet with signs of technological development but it also appears abandoned.

Although my first officer suggests a strong scan and my second requests the idea of landing parties, I refuse. A place that is ‘too quiet’ is the perfect place to spring a trap, so I am letting the Wisp flypast. It happened with the Grissom in the Mutara sector and we all remembered how that ended.

If we come by on our return, then I will see if we can give her a more proper look; for now we will make subspace scans to see if we can give our friends the all clear.”

Just for you Wisp fans, or lovers of the Ranger Class. I did this as part of an experiment in making planets thanks to a wonderful tutorial I found. I am not brilliant but it came out right enough. I decided to make more of the scene by adding in our favourite scout ship. She is different from last because of :iconhandofmanos: excellent redesign.

I also wanted to feel like a scene from a film, and here it is.

Enjoy :D

I like this design. I would like to imagine a re-scaled variant that would be crewed by 9 persons max of 15 (6 for Shift rotation) .
Three tactical: Helm, Tactical, Communications.
Three Science: Science-sensors, Bio-SCI, Medical.
Three engineers: Captain, Quartermaster, Engineer.

What is a "WISP Class"? It appears smaller than the ranger retrofit. I just wish the Pylons were a bit shorter like the U.S.S. Strider a ranger class scout.

That's 2D art for you sir - it can go a bit to pot for scale - no matter how one tries :)

Cheers sir for the visit :D

YAY!!!! More Ranger!! You really image that ship so well. Your capture that Wrath of Khan Reliant feel with the running lights. A real beauty.

So is this original size, or have you reduced it. My eye seems to yearn to see it larger :)

Wiiiiisp! You know what I like sir! :D

This is just beautiful. Like you were intending, it looks like a scene out of a movie.
Someday somebody must use the Ranger class in film, it's too sleek a ship to ignore!

The planet looks just excellent, too! Do you have a link to that tutorial you used? I'd
like to check it out, put my own spin on something like this. :)

Such an adorable little ship! Perfect for the up-and-coming Captain to earn his wings on!

Good job on making a very complete feeling pic. Everything from the ship placement to the lens flare feels organic. The only thing I would point out is that your light source and the shadow on the planet are not quite aligned. Other than that, well done!
