Commissioned: The Stairs in the Woods

They first came across it, a week ago. They were curious, and thought nothing of it.

When they returned to the town and told them what they had found, everyone who they met and retold the discovery were told in no uncertain terms - "never climb it!"

It was Halloween, it was night but lit by the full moon, and the four returned to the woods, to find what they were looking for.

The quartet soon found they prey.

In the middle of a clearing, stood a rickety staircase, that led nowhere.

Despite the warnings, the most daring climbed it, with torch in hand, to see what was at the top.

When their champion got to its end, all looked to see if they could spot their friend.

They saw nothing, except the flash of the torch. Their friend seemed to vanish beyond the stair.

Then to their horror, the flashlight fell, followed by their friend's legs...the rest of their champion....was gone....

This was based on a conversation with my friend who talked about a strange set of stories about abandoned staircases found in the woods of the world, and that by climbing them, spelt one's doom.

So I whipped this up, in time for Halloween....
