Obsidian Cubus

“…it was such a wonderful sleep, all warm and toasty. Then the dog started to bark and bark. He didn’t want to get up, be ripped away from the womb of welcoming warmth or from his love, but duty called.

Cursing, he got up and turned the light on; this was not just to see where his robe was, but also as a deterrent to whatever was causing the canine to wake him. The dog was making excessive noise, almost like a mania.

To him that sounded a lot worse.

His partner woke and asked what was wrong. The farmer explained that something spooked the dog. She was willing to go which prompted an argument which then woke the entire household. So much for stealth he thought.

Grabbing his gun and searchlight from his wardrobe, the family followed the father.

When they got to the dog it turned and stopped. Something was not right.

They all ventured out, one of his children holding a spotlight. They looked around and marvelled at the sky; it was night but the Moon was shining like the sun, the heavens almost daylight but still night time, and across that mocking sun was a cloud. It was so eerie it stopped them dead as they looked at it in awe.

That light could show up anything hiding tonight they thought.

It was then he heard a gasp and looked to where it came from; one of his siblings pointed to the sky, and covered their mouth in horror. He looked in sheer disbelief…

There floating in the heavens was a cube, monstrous in size...”

Another idea inspired by my great friend

The brief was about a cube, black in tone, in a setting; I tried a number of ideas to make this work and I could not – until some nights ago I went out and looked to the skies to see the Moon shining like a star with various vapour trails trying to opaque its brightness.

When I saw that I wondered if that light was being smothered to hide something in the darkness – and voilá, this pic came to pass.

I leave it up to you to come to your own conclusions what this cube is about and the overall idea.
