The Battle of Starbase 102

Description

*Warning – windy text!!*

Alarm bell rang when the sensor grids detected mass movements of Klingon ships heading towards the border of the Federation. If that was not frightening enough, the grids also reported that large contingent of said ships were now on their way to their home world and infighting was detected.

The rebellion had begun.

Numerous houses in the Klingon Empire resented the new peace treaties with the UFP, they felt they had sold their honour, their traditions, and their culture to an enemy they resented. Many houses wanted the Empire to die with honour than live with pity; it was not the Klingon way and Kathess would never have approved. So this was their way to make amends and prepare themselves for the glory of Sto’Vo’Kor.

The only way was to end the weak government of the present Klingon leadership, and to provoke a war with the UFP.

The Klings went for every border world, some in small numbers, many in significant quantity. There was no pattern – it was a case of “seek, locate, and destroy”.

Numerous worlds which had mass populations had significant defences and the best ships – those that were not that hefty of life were not so well protected; and Starbase 102 was one of them.

The base had been attacked before, but that was a year ago; since then 102 has been a go-between base for other sites along the border. As a result, it had any starship to hand.

Learning of a significant Klingon task force heading her way, Captain Schmidt was ordered by base Commodore H. Troy to muster what they had, call for help, and fight like cornered tigers. “102 is not going to fall” she said.

Everyone knew they would be back – just the numbers surprised them.

A fleet of 70 ships, mostly D7-M and S models stormed through the Canopus cloud. To meet them was a UFP task force of formidable yield.

The force commanded by Captain Schmidt on her ship the Triton, consisted of all sorts; six Fenlon class monitors, over a dozen Wilkerson and Larson class destroyers, forty Scorpio class corvettes, two Miranda class medium cruisers, a Durrett light cruiser, and an old Kelvin Surveyor.

However, the fleet is bolstered by a formidable force – three frigates (two Kiev and one Loknar class) a modified experimental Saladin class destroyer, two experimental Constellation class pocket battleships, and finally three Constitution class heavy cruisers, including the Enterprise.

When the Klingons do appear all hell breaks loose.

The Canopus cloud is ablaze with explosions as torpedoes are pre-detonated to smash up the squads of Scorpios; it works very well. Four squads (a total of sixteen ships) are lost in the beginning. The Fenlon monitors appear to be no match to the Klingons either – ideal for custom control, the spheres do not stand a chance.

The Klingons break through and attack anything Federation; they pound the old Kelvin class the USS Marcus to near uselessness; most of the crew abandon ship; a Larson explodes after its warp core breaches, and more Scorpios go down; worse the Constitutions take a beating with one running on fire.

It appears the Klings will win this one.

Yet the Federation stand firm; the Mirandas made infamous for Khan’s tool of vengeance now redeem themselves by pulverising anything the Klingons send; The USS Odysseus commanded by Captain M. Taylor and the USS Isis commanded by Captain S “Douggie “ Dorian are the latest models and show it; one of the Constellations – the USS Barbican under Captain A. Arcass uses its enormous firepower against the enemy with great success; alas the other the USS Colossus commanded by Captain C. Sumner is destroyed with all hands.

The Klingons may have number superiority but Star Fleet’s ships are very well armed. Within an hour, most of the Klingon fleet is smashed and on fire, but in light of this, they fight on….

Sorry to bore the shit out of many of you – just wanted to make a build up to this.

A pic to show the near conclusion of the Star Trek arc I have been doing. Wanted to do an epic space battle – I think this may qualify but I have seen better; I liked how the phasers came out – always loved the depiction in the Wrath of Khan. They looked evil powerful weapons.

Will do a few more trek pics but I think I have reached my zenith with them.

Enjoy!!
