Triton on escort duty

The Triton and its crew have been assigned escort duty to Starbase 102. Over the past two weeks, a number of vessels have either been attacked, destroyed or have gone missing due to Klingon incursions en route there. Now the base has been the victim of a major assault. Starbase 102 managed to defend itself but it suffered. So fearing that the Klingons will be back with the possibility that they may take 102 as a base of their own or a trophy, the Triton has been assigned to the region as part of a gradual build up of a task force to go Klingon Hunting!

The ships I am escorting consist of three transports; two tankers and a freighter. These are needed to start the plans aforementioned – fuel and ready war materials. With these immediate stockpiles, we can make a presence here.

However, to get to Starbase 102 I have plotted a course that takes us through an area near 102 called the Canopus Cloud. It’s a dust field that we can scan quite well, and will hopefully expose any cloaked ships or hide us from immediate detection.

To make sure the mission succeeds, I have been assigned a fleet of ships – two Genser Class Escorts: the USS Edge, and the USS Trailblazer; four squadrons of Scorpio Class Corvettes, and to my delight, the USS Wisp, a Ranger Class Scout.

The Wisp is a ship my crew helped rescue from Klingon attack a month back, and on learning we needed some extra ears, Captain Mason was eager to offer his services to me.

Once again I have raided my childhood and resurrected a few ship designs from the FASA game of Star Trek.

I feature the Triton Class in this picture showing a different angle, so if anyone likes the design can admire it more or even make a 3D model. The original is awful but the idea is fantastic hence my re-design. I added a secondary hull, because I felt it would look better. The pylons are different, and they are styled along the lines of the Constellation Class where the nacelles are side mounted – makes a lot more sense than the original idea! Also the saucer is its own, not again a Constitution kitbash – I have no qualms about kitbashes but lets make them look worthy, eh?

The end result to me is a better looking original ship.

The freighters are based on a design briefly glimpsed in Star Dock in Star Trek III, a basic neck with warp drives and some cargo modules slung under. This I chose to use my imagination to base the design. It’s no doubt different but it looks the business.

The Gensers I based on the Oberth Class but with a different second hull, and stronger warp drives. Again the original design is just shit, but the idea is sound, and of all the escorts in the FASA game, this is the best looker. The original had a saucer like the Constitution, and a titanic second hull, but only armed with phasers? Please. I went with that aspect but made it smaller just; after all they are escorts.

The Wisp is based off one of the few great designs in the FASA books, the Ranger, and she is a good looking ship – only they had her in the films.

Finally the fighter like vessels are Scorpio Class Corvettes – again I loved the idea, but the designers fluffed the shape, so I based the idea on a ship that has the traits of a typical shuttle, but mounted the one warp drive, similar to the types the Oberth possess. I think they look rather sweet.
